From Its Humble Beginnings to a Beacon of Hope

In the annals of animal welfare in India, the WEB Karuna Animal Welfare Association of Karnataka stands as a shining beacon of hope. Its roots can be traced back to the year 1888, when it was established as the Bangalore Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BSPCA).

The organization's mission has remained unwavering throughout the centuries: to provide shelter, rescue, and medical care to stray, old, and injured animals. From its humble beginnings, the BSPCA has grown into a renowned animal welfare organization, offering a wide range of services to the animals in need.

Over the years, the organization has undergone several name changes, reflecting its expanding scope of operations. In 1996, it was renamed the WEB Karuna Animal Welfare Association of Karnataka, in honor of its founder, the late Dr. W.E. Basavaraju. Today, WEB Karuna is a recognized leader in the field of animal welfare, serving as a model for other organizations across the country.
