Biden Ends Speculation, Announces 2024 Run

Former Vice President to Launch Campaign Next Weekend

Declares, "It's Time to Finish the Job"

WASHINGTON - President Joe Biden ended months of speculation Thursday evening, announcing that he will seek a second term in 2024.

"Today, I'm announcing my candidacy for president of the United States," Biden declared at a news conference held at the White House.

"It's time to finish the job," he added. "We've made progress in the last two years, but there's much more work to do. I'm not going to let up until America is back on track."

Biden's announcement comes after weeks of intense speculation about his political future. Many Democrats have urged him to run for re-election, while some have expressed concerns about his age (he will be 82 at the start of his second term) and his approval ratings.

However, Biden has consistently maintained that he plans to run again. In a recent interview with ABC News, he said, "I'm a man of my word. I said I would be a bridge to the next generation, and I intended to do that."

Biden's campaign is expected to focus on his record in office and his plans for the future. He has already outlined a number of policy priorities, including expanding access to affordable healthcare, combating climate change, and strengthening the economy.

Biden will face a crowded field of Democratic challengers in the primary. So far, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy have announced their candidacies.

The Republican nominee for president has not yet been determined. Former President Donald Trump is considered the frontrunner, but several other candidates have also announced their intentions to run.

The general election will be held on November 5, 2024.
