Austin Calitro, a former linebacker for the New York Giants and University of North Carolina Tar Heels, has announced his retirement from the NFL after eight seasons.

Calitro, a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, played college football at the University of North Carolina from 2007 to 2010. He was a member of the Tar Heels' 2008 ACC Championship team and was named an All-ACC honorable mention selection in 2010.

Calitro was drafted by the New York Giants in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft. He played seven seasons with the Giants, starting 14 games and recording 143 tackles, 12 sacks, and two interceptions. He was a member of the Giants' Super Bowl XLVI championship team in 2012.

After leaving the Giants, Calitro played one season with the Cleveland Browns in 2018. He finished his NFL career with 156 tackles, 14 sacks, and two interceptions.

Calitro is now working as a financial advisor in Charlotte. He is also involved in several charitable organizations, including the Austin Calitro Foundation, which supports underprivileged youth in the Charlotte area.
